The ladies’ final between IKSU from Sweden and Dietlikon from Switzerland was highly anticipated. Both teams had showed great technically and tactically skills on their way to the final in Euro Floorcall Cup 2009.

Less than two minutes into the final, IKSU scored the first goal of the final. Therese Andersson scored in front of the Swiss goal, assisted by Frida Eriksson. After three minutes IKSU received a 2-minute penalty, and although Dietlikon produced some good chances, IKSU was able to counterattack, and Anna Wijk passed onto Frida Eriksson who put the ball into the corner of the goal, with no chance for Dietlikon’s goalkeeper Laura Tomatis. From here on, the game got more even, as Dietlikon produced a number of good chances, but IKSU showed their quality after 14 minutes, as Josefina Eiremo with a great shot made it 3-0. IKSU played most parts of the 1st period with three lines, whereas Dietlikon played with two. Towards the end of the 1st period, IKSU fore checked Dietlikon whenever the possibility was present. Something Dietlikon had big trouble in solving tactically.

The start of the 2nd period was quite even, but yet again IKSU showed their efficiency, as Cassandra Edberg intercepted a pass from Dietlikon and easily made it 4-0. And just 1½ minutes later the it was 5-0, as Anna Wijk scored. Dietlikon had big trouble in their offensive game, and had a hard time with the Swedish fore checking game. A Swiss timeout helped, as Dietlikon was able to get a better hold on their offensive game, and produced four good chances in less than a minute late in the first half of the period. And after 10 minutes the reward came. Simone Berner scored in front of the goal, assisted by Eliisa Alanko with the score now 5-1. The goal gave the Swiss players better confidence and their offensive play got even better as they had multiple shots onto the goal, but Malin Alfredsson showed great skills in the Swedish goal. But as seen before, IKSU was extremely efficient in front of the goal, as Cassandra Edberg scored her second goal of the match and made it 6-1 to the Swedes. With little over two minutes left of the period, a 2-minute penalty was given to IKSU’s Cassandra Edberg. It didn’t take Dietlikon long to take advantage of the situation. Simone Berne showed great playmaker skills as she passed the ball around the Swedish player, and with two minutes left of the period, Daniela Morf made it 6-2, assisted by Sarah Schäfer. But the Swedes did not shake, and with just nine second left Martina Söderqvist scored and made the score 7-2 after the 2nd period.

The 3rd period started fairly even with some good chances to both teams. Both teams attacked at every opportunity, resulting in a higher tempo in the game. Dietlikon kept on trying and after 8 minutes a great organized attack resulting in great Swiss goal. Natalie Stadelmann shot the ball into the far corner of the goal. A spectacular goal that was assisted by Daniela Morf. The game now became very entertaining with great chances being created for both IKSU and Dietlikon. At 11 minutes IKSU received a 2-minute penalty, and Dietlikon again took advantage and made it 7-4. The goal was scored at a freeshot by Daniela Morf assisted by Simone Berner. The Swiss looked as if they could put a threat onto IKSU, but Vicoria Wikström made a fantastic individual goal, dribbling her opponent and shooting the ball into the corner of the goal and made the score 8-4 with seven minutes to go. And shortly thereafter IKSU basically sealed the victory as Therese Andersson made it 9-4. However Dietlikon kept on trying and after 15½ minutes they made it 9-5, as Eliisa Alanko scored after a great Swiss attack. In the last couple of minutes IKSU held on to the ball and cruised to a 9-5 victory, thus securing the trophy in the 2009 Euro Floorball Cup.

Team IKSU deserved the win. In almost every aspect of the game, they were slightly ahead of the Swiss. Their technical and physical skills along with their shotefficiency made the difference in an entertaining and exciting final. Dietlikon had great honour of the game, never giving up and believing in the comeback. IKSU’ woman of the match was Victoria Wikström whereas Dietlikon’s was Simone Berner.
